The Military Look, Double Breasted Jackets, Winter Coats

The military look has been a trend that has been simmering away for most of the year. Now we are moving towards the colder weather this trend seems to have emerged as the way forward to keep warm this winter, with many military style coats with high neck lines and button details available on the high street. Double breasted coats, buckles and black boots are the staples of this trend with strong shoulder shapes and button detailing.

Military Jacket

This pink Military Jacket is ideal for athletic, hourglass or pear shapes that have a flatter chest.

How to Wear the Military Style

The double breasted coat is the piece that takes centre stage with many of these style coats available in the shops. High necks and double breasted jackets suit those who have a smaller chest and shoulders. If you are a pear shape then these styles can be good for balancing out a heavier bottom half, especially if you pick a coat with button detail on the shoulder.

Ladies with a voluptuous figure can wear this trend too; just choose a coat that subtly nods to the trend by finding a coat that has the military button detail on the shoulder, but is single breasted and has a lower neckline. However these jackets do of course suit those who have an athletic figure best. If you are this shape you can wear the full military regalia style, with button shoulder detail, double breasted brass buttons and military horizontal strips across the chest if you wish to go all the way!

Those who have broad shoulders or are an apple shape should probably stay away from the military jacket, but can wear button detailing elsewhere. If you have a narrow bottom half then button detailing on trousers and skirts at hip level can look smart.

Military Boots

Ankle and knee high boots are also in with this trend, some being more subtle that others. Knee high black patent leather boots with buckles will make a bold statement, whereas you can be more subtle with just military style zips and small buckle detailing.

Knee high boots can be flatting for those with a wide ankle. If you are tall enough then tucking your dark jeans into your boots can look great. Ankle boots should be only worn with a skirt if you have slender legs, whereas those with heavier legs can wear their ankle boots with smart trousers.
