The metallic trend has been toned down and smartened up for winter. Summer was all about silver and gold, with metallic clutch bags and silver party dresses all over the high street.

While it is possible to buy a pair of coloured sequined trousers on the high street right now, most shops have thankfully gone for a more delicate approach. Glittery thread has been woven into the fabric of dresses and tops have sequins or jewels sewn onto the neckline.

One to avoid however, if you have wide shoulders or a large chest.

Winter Shine and Sparkle

If you want to go for an all over shimmer then pick a top that has a slight sparkle to the material. Materials that are too shiny or are satin will accentuate curves, so only wear these materials over parts of you that you are happy to be under scrutiny.

Look out for darker fabrics with a glittery thread running through the material. Discoo.co.uk stock a short Glitter Knit Dress with a delicate shimmer that would suit an hourglass or athletic shape, which would go well with opaque tights or skinny leg jeans. For a subtle nod to this trend you can still get away with a fabulous glittery bag and keep the rest of your outfit quite neutral.

If you are wearing a sequin top go easy on the jewellery, as too much glitter can look like you tried too hard. This look is all about understated elegance, gone are the brash metallics of the summer months. So shimmer this winter, but in a subtle way.
