One of the most noticeable trends for Spring and Summer 2008 is the Floral look. This trend has been seen in many designers catwalk shows, including Stella McCartney, Missoni and Balenciaga. Every flower has been used as inspiration with roses, daisies and poppies in all colours splashed over fabrics.

How to Wear Florals

This look can be worn in so many different ways it is possible to incorporate it into your own personal style. There are shirts, dresses and blouses in floaty and more structured fabrics so there is plenty of choice. Straight up and down body shapes like an athletic figure can go for the floaty fabrics which will create the illusion of curves. For those who are more curvaceous try more structured styles and add a belt to emphasise your waist.

If you like the feminine look, then go all the way with a full flowery pattern dress, puff sleeves or ruffles maybe with heels, but be careful of adding a cardigan and girlie jewellery to avoid looking old fashioned. A small print tends to look more prim and proper, whereas a large print will make a more bold statement.

If you prefer to dress less girlie then it is still possible to incorporate florals into your look by keeping the accessories to a minimum, just a chunky bracelet or necklace. A pretty floral dress can be toughened up with a denim jacket and boots instead of heels.

Whichever way you like to dress, remember that a busy pattern will emphasise the part of your body it is covering, so it is best not to wear a tight fitting floral print on an area you do not like. If the floral look is a little overwhelming then a nod to the trend is to add a flower to a bag or jacket, or indeed try a bag in a flowery pattern.
