Office Party, Christmas Party Wear, Party Dresses

Oh no, it’s the office Christmas party coming round again and the stressing about what to wear has started already. This anticipated event needn’t be such a headache as long as you follow a few tried and tested rules.

A little clichéd but always a safe bet is the little black dress. Pick a high necked one if you are flat chested and a scoop or V-neck if you have a larger bust. Make sure the length of your dress is just below the knee, add some pretty but understated jewellery, to show you have some personality and voila, you have an outfit that would work for most office gatherings.

It may be obvious but if you are having a sit down meal, make sure that your neckline is not so low that anyone standing behind you can see all the way down. If you are unsure, a little camisole top underneath your dress can save any embarrassment.

Party Wear

For those who want to make more of a fashion statement you could try a print dress. Empire Stores have a V-Neck Print Dress that would suit an apple or pear shape or anyone with curves. Anyone with an athletic or petite figure will look good in the Burgundy flapper dress, available from Topshop online, which has an amazing low back.

Even if you know the dress code has been described as ‘casual’ this still does not mean jeans and trainers. It is always worth asking a couple of your work colleagues who always dress well in the office what sort of outfit they will be wearing. This can give you an idea how smart you need to be.

To be taken seriously, stay away from overdoing the colour red, although very festive it can be overkill. Also avoid musical earrings (you know who you are!) and too much tinsel. By all means get in the party spirit, but if your outfit is dominated by trinkets you risk looking more like a Christmas tree than a guest.

If you are still undecided with your look then go for the more conservative outfit. This is not the time to show off your cleavage or legs or worse, both at the same time. You will want to feel confident and professional and not worrying if your outfit is falling down or riding up. This is your chance to get to know your work colleagues out of the office and impress your boss. So eat, drink (but not too much!) and be merry.
