Pear Shape Style Advice
Pear shaped women generally have a petite top half and a more heavy bottom, with a smaller chest and shoulders and wider hips. With the right outfit a pear shape can look extremely feminine with a sexy behind!
A-line skirts in a structured fabric are good for skimming over large hips. If you have a large but pert behind, then a pencil skirt that ends just below the knee could be a shape to try. Longer skirts in general that end just below the knee are much more flattering than short skirts for you. Try more tailored pieces that have structure and steer clear of flimsy or ‘floaty’ fabrics that add bulk. Avoid skirts cut on the bias as these will cling in all the wrong places.
Stay away from trousers and jeans that taper in and are tight around your ankles, but also avoid really wide leg trousers that just go straight down from your widest part. A fitted boot cut or straight leg jean or trouser is your best shape. Cropped trousers are probably a bad move as they can make your legs look shorter and therefore your hips and bum wider.
Do not wear anything too clingy on your bottom half and anything that remotely resembles tracksuit bottoms is a big no-no! Trousers that sit on your waist will make your bottom look much bigger than it is, especially from behind, so choose a pair that sit just below the waist line.
Tops for a Pear Shape
You can wear most shirts and T-shirts that more top heavy girls can’t, so make the most of it and show off your figure. The only rule would be to try not to wear tops that end in a straight line across your widest part. Boat and slash necks that create a horizontal line across your neck, making your shoulders appear wider will balance out your bottom.
Adding detail to the top half can be brilliant at drawing the eye up the body away from the problem area. Brighter colours on top or beading detail around the neck line can look great, or you could try adding a statement necklace. Go for strapless tops as well if you dare to bare.
Any tops and jackets that highlight your waist are flattering for you, keep dark colours on your bottom half and have fun with brighter colours and prints on your top half. If you feel you need it, going for a padded bra to make your chest look slightly bigger can work to make your bum look smaller in comparison.
Dresses for your Figure
Dresses can be your best friend as long as they emphasise your waist and do not have ruffles around your hips. Empire lined dresses are great as they are tight around your smaller top half and then flare out just below you bust line, skimming over your larger bottom half.
Heels are a great investment and chunky heels are better than stilettos for you. They will make you walk taller and appear slimmer. So get ready to wow, you may find that your bottom turns into your biggest asset!
