Clothes for an Athletic figure

Having a boyish, athletic figure you are probably able to wear most of the fashion on the high street and look good in it, lucky you! You can wear skinny jeans, most jackets and halter neck tops to show off those toned shoulders. Finding clothes that fit your shape should not be too much of a problem, but if you long to be more curvaceous, what clothes should you wear to create this illusion?

An athletic figure generally has long toned limbs but not much of a waist, so to give the illusion of curves you need to add width to the hips and shoulders and cinch in the waist.

Boyish Bodyshape Advice

If you wish to add width to your hip area then A line skirts are a must have, these are also especially good if you have saddlebags, as they skim this area perfectly. If you do not suffer from saddlebags then choose a skirt that is cut on the bias as this will move around you as you walk giving you curves.

Try wearing floaty fabrics that do not cling to your shape, so avoid pencil skirts as these can make your waist look thick and will also do you no favours if you have a flat bum. The tulip shape skirt might be a look to try, however if you do make sure that the rest of your outfit is quite fitted.

Tighter fitting jeans and skinny jeans will look better than boot cut or flared on you, just make sure that any jeans you choose sit low on the waist. As for dresses, avoid wrap styles and go for a dress that is fitted tightly around your top half, strapless is good, and then has an A line flare to the skirt.

Tops for an Athletic Shape

Tops that suit you would be halter necks and slash necks. Also if you have narrow shoulders then you can wear double breasted jackets and look great. If you have small breasts and narrow shoulders then you can get away with practically any jacket, in any style or shape.

If you have an athletic figure and are tall as well (we are envious of you here at What Suits You!) be careful of wearing one colour from head to toe as this could make you look like a bean pole. Try breaking up your shape by wearing a different but complimentary colour on your top half.

Finally, are you feeling brave? If you do not suffer from the dreaded cellulite and feel you are young enough (at heart) then you do have the shape to get away with hotpants!
